Beautiful CaseReview by AttackDecaySustainRepeat
My experience is overall similar to the other reviewer, but the standoffs that came with mine were all tapped properly. I remedied the long screw problem by picking up some new ones for a few cents at the hardware store, no big deal. The easiest way I've found to disassemble it is to put a credit card under each side of the switch and apply some leverage and it pops out easily. The only other thing I noticed is that there are 2 distinct hairline scratches in the finish on the front panel between the knobs, below the screen about 3cm long. Perhaps from the screen printing process? They are almost completely invisible in normal light, and if you aren't specifically looking for such things. Given the nature of the project, they don't bother me at all, but I felt it was worth mentioning. Other than that, the fit with the board is great, the lettering is all even and consistent, the wood ends are nicer and more pale than I was expecting (which looks good with the white in my opinion). Would absolutely buy again, and would highly recommend it if you want to build a Shruthi. The design of the case is superior to many factory built instruments I've owned. MA was great to deal with as always, and were responsive and patient with all of my badgering questions. (Posted on 9/25/2017)
Excellent but…Review by Squarewave
This case is sturdy and beautiful. The end caps on mine are oak and slightly lighter than pictured. The quality is really really excellent, however: the mounting hardware included is not so great. Be aware that the boards mount to this case differently than the original acrylic cases. The filter board sits on 5mm standoffs and the included screws are too long to fit without shimming washers. The control board mounts to the bottom of the case using a 28mm standoff made out of: 1) 20mm standoff, 1) 3mm nut, and 1) 5mm standoff. This results in the boards being 3mm further apart than they were designed to be so the stacked header that connects the boards may not make the best contact depending on what you used for headers. Also, since the same 5mm standoffs are used for the control board, the supplied screws are too long and need to be shimmed. The washers that are supplied are only 1mm, but to make the boards snug you need to two of them everywhere that needs to be shimmed so only half the number of washers needed come with the case. One of the 20mm standoffs in my kit was only tapped on one side so I just ordered some 28mm standoffs from eBay to make the build far more sturdy. Also be aware that the position of the power switch is the same as on the acrylic case but since the sides on the metal case are not removeable, once the switch goes in it will be very difficult to disassemble. This case also uses light pipes for the LEDs so those will need to be mounted flush to the PCB. (Posted on 5/10/2017)
